FROM 01.04.2020 UNTIL 31.03.2021 MERCHANT SHIPS TRANSITING IN THE CENTRAL MEDITERRANEAN SEA COULD BE CALLED ON VHF (FIRST CALL ON CH 16) AND ASKED TO PROVIDE INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR ACTIVITIES: ALL VESSELS ARE REQUESTED TO KEEP A SHARP WATCH AND ENSURE COOPERATION TO EUNAVFORMED MILITARY ASSETS OPERATING UNDER THE EUROPEAN UNION FLAG OR IN SUPPORT TO OPERATION IRINI.

MEDITERRANEAN SEA AND ITS APPROACHES
1.- Operation SEA GUARDIAN (OSG), NATOs standing maritime security operation in the Mediterranean Sea in progress until further notice. OSG is aimed at working with Mediterranean stakeholders to deter and counter terrorism and mitigate the risks of other threats to maritime security.
2.- Merchant ships are requested to participate in the Voluntary Reporting Scheme defined in and review the NATO Shipping Centre webpage (www.shipping.nato.int) for additional guidance on reporting suspicious incidents, including electronic interference.
